Division 3 Recreational Soccer (U11+)
U11+ recreational teams at HYSA play inter-association games against other member associations within the Capitol Area Youth Soccer Association (CAYSA). Teams are formed by age group (eg, U11, U12, U13, U14, U16, U17, U18) and are divided into girls divisions and boys divisions.
At the U11 and U12 age groups, we typically do not have enough players to form all boys or all girls teams. We typically have a mixed U11/U12 boy/girl team that plays games in the CAYSA Division 3 U12 Boys division.
To register a Division 3 team in a U13 or older age group, we typically register teams with CAYSA after they are formed. If you would like to register a Division 3 team in a U13 or higher age group, please contact the Division 3 commissioner for details.
For Division 3 teams, we must meet the CAYSA deadlines for registration of teams and players; therefore, the registration windows and cut-offs will be different and sooner than our other recreational teams.
Coach: Teams are coached by a volunteer parent coach. If you are interested in coaching a team, please indicate this when you register your child. Coaches are required to take the US Youth Soccer Grassroots Level 1 Coaching course and obtain a coaching certificate. All coaches must pass a background check and, upon successful screening, are issued a Kid Safe badge.
Practices: 1 hour practice, twice a week
Team Formation:
U11+ Division 3 teams are recreational level teams, which mean that they are assembled without regard to skill. U11 and U12 players who register with HYSA will be placed on a U11 or U12 boys team; unless, we have enough girls (10 players) register to form a U11 or U12 team. U13+ teams will be registered if a parent/coach provides registration information for a full team. U13+ teams play 11v11 and will need at least 11 players to play (max roster of 18).
Game Format: Games may be played on Saturdays or Sundays. All games will be schedule by or in consultation with the parent coach. Approximately half of the games will be played at home (HYSA complex) and the other half will be played away (at other member associations within CAYSA). CAYSA/STYSA playing rules shall prevail for U11 and older inter-association games.

- U11 teams, headers are not allowed.

Referees: A certified referee will serve as the center referee. A certified referee will serve as the Assistant Referee. At HYSA we encourage our youth players (usually select players) to become certified referees. Youth referees are introduced to the game in this way. All youth referees are in training.
Jersey: Each player will receive a new Jersey in the Fall. Returning players from the Fall to the Spring will not receive a new Jersey, but will continue to use their Fall jersey. New players to the Spring season will receive a new Jersey.
Equipment: Each player must wear shin guards. Soft-cleated soccer shoes are recommended.
