.U10 RECREATIONAL SOCCER
U10 practices twice a week and play their games on Saturday mornings at the HYSA facilities. The price includes 6-8 weeks of games, jersey and medals and an end of season tournament. Registration link is on the home page.
U10 recreational soccer teams are co-ed (boys and girls) and include U9 and U10 players. Games are played within HYSA against other in-house HYSA teams and against U10 recreational teams in San Marcos.
Coach: Teams are coached by a volunteer parent coach. If you are interested in coaching a team, please indicate this when you register your child. Coaches are encouraged to take the US Youth Soccer Grassroots Level 1 Coaching course and obtain a coaching certificate. All coaches must pass a background check and, upon successful screening, are issued a Kid Safe badge.
Practices: 1-hour practice, twice a week
Team Formation: Teams will be formed through a draft after a sufficient number of players have registered. Players will demonstrate their skills for the coaches to allow for equitable distribution of talent and ability. Special requests will not be honored at the U10 age group. Unless a player requests otherwise, a player will be assigned to their fall team for the spring season.
Game Format: Games are typically played on Saturday mornings however some games may be played on Sundays. Many of the FIFA standard rules of play apply to U10 recreational soccer. Please consult the the rules of youth soccer explained for a brief overview or USSF Youth Soccer Rules of the Game for more resources.

Build Out Lines: The build out line promotes playing the ball out of the back in a less pressured setting.
When the goalkeeper has the ball in his or her hands during play from the opponent, the opposing team must move behind the build out line until the ball is put into play.
Once the opposing team is behind the build out line, the goalkeeper can pass, throw or roll
the ball into play (punts and drop kicks are not allowed).
After the ball is put into play by the goalkeeper and it is touched by another member of their team, the opposing team can cross the build out line and play resumes as normal
The opposing team must also move behind the build out line during a goal kick until the ball
is put into play.
The goalkeeper can put the ball into play sooner but he or she does so accepting the positioning of the opponents and the consequences of how play resumes.
The build out line will also be used to denote where offside offenses can be called.
Players will only be penalized for an offside offense between the build out line and goal line
Referees: A certified referee or referee-in-training will serve as the center referee. A certified referee or referee-in-training may serve as the Assistant Referee. At HYSA we encourage our youth players (usually select players) to become certified referees. Youth referees are introduced to the game in this way. All youth referees are in training.
Jersey: Each player will receive a new Jersey in the Fall and Spring season.
Equipment: Each player will need a size 4 soccer ball and must wear shin guards. Soft-cleated soccer shoes are recommended.
